Lansing Schools Pick Magic Johnson Company To Feed Students

The school district has selected SodexoMAGIC to become the student food provider for the coming year. The company is a joint venture between Sodexo and Magic Johnson Enterprises.  SodexoMAGIC began managing student nutrition operations for the district July 1.

“As someone who grew up in Lansing, I have a unique perspective on this community and understand the needs of its students and the district,” said Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jr., Chairman, CEO and President of SodexoMAGIC, LLC. “Through my personal history with this community, we were able to design a student nutrition program that will positively impact Lansing well beyond the confines of the cafeteria walls. I am excited to have this opportunity to help Lansing and its students grow.”

The company committed to offering more free breakfast meals in schools and increasing the selection of healthier, more nutritious options in its vending and K-12 lunchroom programs. SodexoMAGIC also supports the community by promoting fresh fruits and vegetables grown locally in Michigan.

As part of his commitment to the project Magic Johnson will personally host an annual “Magic of a Promise” fundraising event to benefit the Lansing Promise and H.O.P.E. Scholarship Program. No date has been set for that fundraiser. The company will also work closely with the district to recognize both students and teachers for exemplary performance.
