Nov. 21, 2014: Tonight, the Michigan Chronicle will pay tribute to honorees of the 2014 Legacy in Motion Newsmaker Gala in the beautifully renovated Grand Riverview Ballroom at Cobo Center.
This year we will honor Roy Roberts with the Lifetime Achievement Award along with Earvin “Magic” Johnson. Company of the Year awardee, JP Morgan Chase, will be honored for the deployment of $25 million in philanthropic investments to Detroit-based non-profits, and ChemicoMays with Leon C. Richardson, president and chief executive officer, accepting the award.
The Michigan Chronicle will present two Newsmaker of the Year awards to General Motors for their appointment of the first female CEO and the creation of the Marketing and Communications Diversity Center of Excellence, and Warren Evans for his strong comeback and successful campaign for the Wayne County Executive seat.
Other honors include the Community Spirit Award being presented to Bishop Edgar Vann of Second Ebenezer Church, and
Rising Star honoree Evette Hollins, manager of External Relations at AT&T. This is the Michigan Chronicle’ eighth year celebrating these top urban achievers who continue to build Detroit’s legacy. The gala is heralded as one of Detroit’s most anticipated social events, attended by movers, shakers and area newsmakers from senior level executives and political officials to community stakeholders.
This year promises to be newsworthy with live entertainment and delectable cuisine in an Academy Awards-style format.
